A lesson is a document already on file: the commissioning procedure, the safety sheet, a slide deck, a video. Order them into sections, add a quiz, name the certificate. When the procedure gets a new version, the lesson does too.

  1. A lesson is a document already on file: the commissioning procedure, the safety sheet, a slide deck, a video. Order them into sections, add a quiz, name the certificate. When the procedure gets a new version, the lesson does too.

  2. A rule enrols every technician on hire and every technician already in the file, with a due date. Or the course is listed on your site at a price, and the buyer's contact is enrolled the moment the order is paid.

  3. Lessons done, time spent, the quiz score against the pass mark, the attempt count. On the employee, next to their contract. On the client's contact, next to their orders. Not in a student account somewhere else.

  4. Passing the quiz generates the certificate from its template: the learner's name, the course, the score, the date, the signature of the person you named, a reference. It is filed on the learner and sent to them, and it carries a validity date if the course has one.

  5. A course sold to a client is a line on the invoice in your ledger, at its VAT rate, on the client that also holds the quotes. A course completed by an employee is a line in their file, with the certificate attached and the date it expires.

A lesson is a document you already have

A PDF, a page from the wiki, a slide deck, a video, a form to fill. The lesson points at the document, so the course is as current as the file.

A quiz with a pass mark

Single choice, multiple choice, a number within a tolerance, a photo to upload. A pass mark, a number of attempts, and the wrong answers explained. The first draft of the questions is proposed from the lesson, for you to correct.

Prerequisites and paths

Level 1 before level 2. A path is a list of courses in order, and the next one opens when the previous certificate is filed.

One reminder, once

Seven days before the due date, the people who have not finished get one message. The planner sees who is late on Monday, not the learner every day.

Questions under the lesson

A learner asks under lesson 3 and the person who wrote the procedure answers there. The thread stays with the lesson for the next learner, and it can become a forum thread when the answer is worth more than one course.

Who has done what

Assigned, started, late, passed, per course and per team, and the average score against the pass mark, read from the enrolments as they change.

The same course, for a business that trains its technicians and one that sells to its clients.

What adapts: who the learner is (an employee, a client's contact, anyone on the site), what enrols them (a role, a hire date, a paid order), whether there is a due date, what the pass mark is, what the certificate says and how long it is valid, and where the completion lands. Two businesses can run eLearning and disagree on every one of those.

An HVAC installer training its technicians

The learner is an employee. The course is built from the commissioning procedure and the safety sheet the company already keeps, every technician is enrolled on hire with thirty days to finish, the pass mark is 16 out of 20, and the certificate is valid two years. The completion is a line in the employee file, and the planner sees who may be sent on a heat pump job.

An accounting firm selling a course to its clients

The learner is a client's contact. The course is built from the firm's own explainer deck and a recorded session, it is listed on the firm's site at €240.00 a seat, the buyer is enrolled when the order is paid, there is no due date, and the certificate is a certificate of attendance. The sale is a line on the client's invoice, next to the monthly fee, and the completion is on the client's record before the next review meeting.

The certificate is a document, generated from the record, dated, signed, filed.

When Karim passes the quiz, nothing is typed. The certificate template reads his name from the employee, the course and the score from the enrolment, the date from the moment he passed and the signature from the person you named, and it generates a PDF with its own reference. It is filed on Karim, attached to the course, sent to him, and its validity date is a field the planner can filter on, so a technician whose certificate expires in March is a row on a list in February, not a surprise on a site.

Who sees which course is a rule, not a habit.

An internal procedure is for technicians and the people who plan them. A paid course is for the client who bought it, and listed for everyone on the site. A partner course is for installers of your product and nobody else. In Enobase those are roles on the course: who can take it, who can assign it, who reads the results, and whether the public shop lists it. A client signing in sees their courses and their certificates, and nothing of the technicians'. The technician sees the procedure, and nothing of the price list.

Installers, maintenance contractors, accounting firms, software vendors, franchisors, distributors with a dealer network: the businesses whose knowledge is already written down in a procedure, a safety sheet, a deck or a recorded session, and who need the people who read it to prove they did. Sometimes the learner is on the payroll and the certificate decides who may be sent on the job. Sometimes the learner is a client or a partner and the course is a product with a price.
